Description / Background

This war memorial is a large, timber roll of honour. It has classical features, including two solid carved columns on the left and right sides and a cornice-style capping piece at the top. The inscription and names are painted in gold in the middle of the board. The memorial is dedicated to members of Lodge Barraba No. 264 of the United Grand Lodge (U.G.L.) who served in the First and Second World Wars.

The lodge was established as the 'Pride of Barraba' in 1892 (The Sydney Mail and New South Wales Advertiser, 30 July 1892). It is likely the roll was unveiled where the lodge held its meetings. It has since been moved to the Barraba Historical Museum, also known as the Nandewar Historical Society Museum. Access to the memorial is restricted to the opening hours of the museum.
