Jennings Public School 1917 Roll of Honour Middle Image 0 / 0 - Prev Next Description / Background This First World War roll of honour is in the form of an illuminated address. The page is richly decorated with colour illustrations, including a border of lillies, leaves, and vines. At the top are a crown, shield, and the flags of Germany, France, and Britain. In the bottom right-hand corner are a helmet, sword, and shield, all depicted in a classical style. The roll lists 22 former pupils of Jennings Public School who served in the war. Their names are printed in black in the centre of the page. The roll was designed by John Sands and Co. of Sydney., who made a range of war memorials of this type. It was unveiled at the school on 5 September 1917, by teacher Walter A. Dalton. The event was described in the Tenterfield Star on 10 September. A contemporary addition to the memorial is its timber frame, which was donated by J. and P. Holley for the school's centenary in 1990. A small plaque at the bottom of the frame details their gift.
