Description / Background

The memorial is a simply designed timber roll of honour, made from maple. It has a Norman-shaped top and decorative columns on each side. The roll lists the names of six local men, as well as the causes, dates and places of their deaths. The names and inscription are painted on the board in gold.

The unveiling took place in the Tyalgum Literary Institute, now known as the Tyalgum Community Hall, on Sunday 7 November 1948. The event was well-attended and was covered in detail by the Tweed Daily in their issue of 12 November. The ceremony was jointly conducted by the Church of England and the Church of Christ. The memorial was dedicated by Reverend R.L. Edwards of Murwillumbah, NSW. Mr W. Trim, president of the Tyalgum Welfare and Memorial Committee, "...presented a Bible, as a token of remembrance, to the mother of each of the fallen."

The memorial is located inside the Tyalgum Community Hall and access is by appointment/tour.
