2020 marks 75 years since the end of the Second World War. To commemorate this important year, the NSW Government interviewed WWII veterans about their experiences. Read our 75th Anniversary Stories.
The memorial is a timber honour roll, bearing the names of 52 service personnel who served in the Second World War. The names are printed on the board in gold across three columns. The top of the board is brightly decorated with the crossed Union Jack and Australian Red Ensign painted in full colour.
The memorial was unveiled at a welcome home function for district ex-servicemen at the Doon Doon Hall on Friday 20 December 1946. In their issue of 27 December, The Tweed Daily described the function in detail and listed the names on the roll.
The Doon Doon Creek and Commissioners Creek Welfare Association was formed in 1940 to support those who served (Tweed Daily, 7 June 1940). Their books were closed in December 1946.
Access to the memorial is restricted to the opening hours of the hall.
