Uralla Public School Honour Roll WW1

Uralla Public School Honour Roll WW1

Under the auspices of the local branch of the RS and S Imperial League, Anzac Day 1921 was observed by the unveiling of a honour roll at the public school. The Armidale Chronicle, 30 April 1921 described the occasion. The school headmaster Mr J H McAlpine addressed the audience as well as the Mayor Ald W M Elliott, Mr A McClelland MLA and church representatives. The Salvation Army played appropriate music and a memorial service was conducted by the clergymen.

The Uralla Public School was established in January 1862 and became a Central School in 1962. The Uralla Times, 24 July 1920 listed the names to be placed on the Public School Honour Roll. The headmaster Mr McAlpine asked for any omitted names to be fowarded to him. In reporting the unveiling, the Uralla Times 30 April 1921 published all names on the roll.
