Brunswick Heads Memorial Park and Monuments

Description

Brunswick Heads Memorial Park is located within Banner Park. The entrance to the memorial site is via a pair of white metal gates situated between two red brick columns, with a brass cross featuring a sword affixed to the front of each of the columns. A white metal arch with the words "In Remembrance" spans the two columns. The memorial features a stone remembrance wall at the rear. Three brass plaques with the emblems of the Royal Australian Navy, Australian Army and Royal Australian Air Force are situated in the centre section of the remembrance wall, with an additional brass plaque on either side of the wall listing the various conflicts in which Australia has been involved.

A polished black granite monument, mounted on a large concrete base, is positioned in the centre of the memorial space. Inscribed in gold at the top of the monument are the emblems of the three branches of the Australian Defence Force with a dedication in gold lettering below to the memory of all service personnel from the district who served in conflicts and peace keeping operations in which Australia has been involved.

The memorial park backs on to the foreshore of Simpson's Creek, a tributary of the Brunswick River. Coastal Cypress Pines are planted in a grid formation about 4-5m apart on the foreshore, providing a place of reflection and remembrance.

Note: The NSW War Memorials Register is aware that the central monument has been upgraded since the images in this listing were taken and they do not necessarily reflect the current memorial.
