Description / Background

The Moonbi Public School First World War Roll of Honor is made of timber and is presented in a metal frame behind protective glass. The board is decorated with carved laurel wreaths and scrolls with leaf-like patterns. The crossed Australian Red Ensign and Union Jack are also painted in full colour towards the top of the board.

The names of 21 ex-pupils of the school who served in the war are inscribed on individual name plates and attached to the centre of the board in two columns. The names have been highlighted in blue.

The roll was erected in the school in 1918. A photograph of it was published in The Sydney Mail on 5 June that year. It shows the main body of the board, which is the portion preserved in the frame, and states "the other portion consists of a handsome, beautifully carved base in conventional design." Unfortunately, the base has been lost.

The roll is available to view at the school by appointment/tour. Also on site is the Moonbi Public School First World War Memorial Wall. The names on the roll also appear on the wall.
