Description / Background

St Clement's Church of England of Billinudgel Great War Honour Roll is an ornate timber board, made of polished cedar. It was erected by the family of Private William George Slogrove, who died of influenza in October 1918.

The board was made around May 1919 by Mr Pullinger of Mullumbimby, to a design by Reverend J.H. Kittell. It features four turned columns that divide the body into three panels. The centre panel includes the dedication to Slogrove. On the left are the enlistees and on the right are those who died in service.

The memorial was unveiled on 14 September 1919 at St Clement's. A detailed descriptions of the ceremony was published in the Northern Star on 23 September. William's father, Mr G.W. Slogrove, performed the unveiling. The occasion was also used as a welcome home function for returned soldiers.

The roll is now located in St Martin's Memorial Church at Mullumimby. It is available for viewing when the church is open for services.
