Description / Background

A rough-hewn trachyte obelisk, with honour rolls and dedication plaques for the First and Second World Wars attached. The memorial is located outside the front of the Moss Vale Services Club and is surrounded by a concrete footpath and grass. The grassed area is bordered by a low sandstone brick wall. The obelisk was dedicated on 8 January 1922.

At the side of the area is a second memorial in the form a black-iron arch with a dedication and a clock.

Notes on veterans' names:

  • No records can be found for deceased veterans from this area with the following names: B Duke Young, D C Fleming, R C Lancaster, T A Hutchins, John Bateman. Their status codes have been left as killed in action (KIA), as that is what is suggested by the memorial.
  • All other status codes have been taken from information provided by the Australian War Memorial Roll Of Honour, the World War 2 Nominal Roll, and records in the National Archives of Australia.
  • On the memorial, E F Perry-Circuitt is given as E E Circuitt, H E Mallard is given as H T Mallard, Wm Stephens is given as Wm Stevens, and Bert Vandenbergh is given as Bert Vanderbergh.
  • The Australian War Memorial records give Wm J Waters' unit as 2nd Bn Australian Infantry.
