Description / Background

A cenotaph with flagpole situated in the middle of a semi-circular wall with plaques of soldiers who served our country. Named after Lt. Peter Hines, being the only (known to the RSL Club) serviceman from this area to have been killed in action. The memorial is situated out the front of the Wangi Wangi RSL Sub Branch.

This monument has been erected by the Wangi-Wangi R.S.L. Sub-Branch as a tribute to the men and women who served their country in the following campaigns

Maori War 1860-1866 – Sudan 1882-1889 – Boer War 1889-1902 – World War I 1914-1918 – World War II 1939-1945 – Malaya 1948-1960 – Korea 1950-1953 – Malaya Peninsula – Borneo 1962-1966 – Vietnam 1962-1973 – Gulf War 1990-1991 – War Against Terrorism 2001- Present.

In memory of 214348 Lieutenant Peter A. Hines 3 Platoon A Company 6th Battalion Royal Australian Regiment. Killed in action Phuoc Tuy South Vietnam 21st July 1969. "Lest We Forget".
