Meet the ‘Register Champions’ helping us record history

The NSW War Memorials Register is a database of war memorials in New South Wales. It was launched on 22 April 2002 and now holds records of more than 3,000 war memorials and 200,000 veterans. This rich database helps tell the story of NSW military service and commemoration by linking war memorials, veterans and their stories to other community and government records.

The Register relies on members of the public to record accurate and up-to-date information about war memorials, as well as the veterans inscribed on them. Anyone can contribute to the Register, and we encourage you to get involved.

David Roden is one of our earliest and longest-running voluntary contributors. When David was interviewed by Anzac Memorial Guide Ashleigh Taylor recently, he described memorials as:

Expressive of a real community emotion to remember and to record that terrible proportion of loss … it is the stories that are the things which really impress and inspire.

David, along with Graham Wilson and Ron McIntosh, are known as our 'Register Champions' for their remarkable contributions to this important community resource. Read more about David, Graham and Ron, including how they got started researching war memorials and some of the intriguing stories they have uncovered along the way.
