Description / Background

The original Khancoban Great War Honour Roll was detroyed by fire in 1954. Until recently, the only record of it was a framed photograph hanging in Khancoban Public School.

The original roll and photograph were commissioned by Myrtle Wells Whitehead, a teacher at Khancoban in 1918–1920, and wife of Ernie Whitehead. The roll was made by Mr Barling in 1922.

In 2012, the Khancoban Community Center undertook a project to have a replica of the roll created. It was completed in 2013. The memorial is a photographic honour roll, approximately 1 metre high by 50 cms wide. It is made from mahogany, with carved columns on either side. The board features photographs of the 10 diggers in uniform, complete with brass name plates.
