Description / Background

 

Wooden honour board set in glass case within a larger wooden cabinet. It is located in the Queen Victoria Building. Lists the names of Australians awarded the Victoria Cross.

The cabinet also includes:

  • a painting by G. W. Thomas, on loan by permission of Queen Elizabeth II, of Queen Victoria presenting the first Victoria Crosses in London's Hyde Park on 26th June 1857
  • a model of a Russian 64pdr cannon, which was captured at Sebastopol in 1854, crafted by apprentices from HMA Naval Dockyard, Garden Island, Sydney

This plaque commemorates the visit of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Phillip Duke of Edinburgh to the Victoria Cross Memorial, Queen Victoria Building, in the presence of Sir Roden Cutler VC AK KCMG KCVO CBE,  Private Edward Kenna VC WOII, Keith Payne VC on the occasion of the Sesquicentenary of the City of Sydney, 23rd February 1992.
